The purchase of lighter weight cattle is a risk to the producer. To minimize the risk, Great Bend Feeding, Inc. has teamed up with several backgrounders to help prepare lighter weight cattle to go on feed and perform at the best possible level in the feedyard environment, not only from a health standpoint, but from a live performance standpoint as well.

We have used the following backgrounders with confidence:

Backgrounder Description Manager
Dillwyn Feedyard This is a rye pasture (fall and spring) and drylot program. The yard is located 35 miles south of Great Bend Feeding. They have a one-time capacity (on rye pasture) of approximately 5,500 head. Bill Bunker
High C Farms This program is also a rye pasture (fall and spring) and drylot program. The yard is located 30 miles south of Great Bend Feeding. They have a one-time capacity (on rye pasture) of approximately 2,900 head. Chris Pinkston

These gentlemen are excellent operators who know and understand how to start and background cattle. Great Bend Feeding would not recommend them if we did not have a high level of understanding of their operations and a firm belief in their abilities.

All cattle run through any of the previously listed operations will be backgrounded with the intent of having them finished at Great Bend Feeding. Also, Great Bend Feeding will loan money on cattle to be placed at these backgrounders. Please contact us to learn more about backgrounding.
